 SUN GLARE INTERSECTION COLLISION

We were asked to simulate the view from a driver viewpoint in an intersection collision.  The defendant claimed the sun was directly in her eyes, making it impossible for her to see the traffic light, insisting she had the green.  She was also not wearing sunglasses or using the visor to block the sun out.  We set up a simulation in our 3d software to plot where the sun would have been in the sky that date and time.

The actual position of the sun at that time was not directly in line with her direction of travel (due East).  This suggested that although the position of the sun may have been a factor, it was not the sole reason for running the light.  The plaintiff's view showed that there would not have been any problem seeing the traffic light from his position (due West).
