In the storyboards above, a thatching machine attached to a tractor was being used to break up sod on a golf course in order to aerate the soil. A landscape worker, following behind the thatcher, was blowing the debris away when he slipped on wet turf. His leg was sucked into the rear of the cutting blades. The damage to his leg was so severe it required amputation.
An optional shield was available for this unit and we demonstrated the opportunity for safe operation the guard would have offered the worker.
